This substantial wooden fruit bowl is made of ash. Ash wood is usually very pale in colour but often has very prominent dark streaks, sometimes known as olive ash, which give it a very striking appearance. The wood in this bowl is partly dark and partly pale. The pale wood has complex grain, and the darker area shows early signs of spalting. There are some small fissures where the pale wood has grown over an old injury to the tree. With a diameter of 24 cm, it would make a useful gift, and would look great on a coffee table or sideboard. This is one of a pair of bowls that I made from a small log section found in local woodland.
