This spalted sycamore bowl is one of a series I made from a sycamore log that had been lying on the ground for long enough to develop some spectacular colour. Sycamore is usually very pale, with little figure. But having been exposed to the damp soil, and protected from sun by the undergrowth, this log had become something special. Here is some information about spalted timber. The wood is still quite hard and this bowl would work very well as a fruit bowl. It has some nice crotch figure and is 20.5 cm across.
