Spalted sycamore bowl , 18 cm

Description

This is one of a series of bowls that I turned from the wood of a large sycamore tree. The base of the trunk was affected by fungus that had caused a lot of spalting. It has the usual pale colour of sycamore on one side, with a dark area made by the fungus, and some prominent ripple figure. The dark area has an intricate pattern of black spalt lines that show both inside and outside the bowl.
