Spalted elm bowl, 18 cm

Description

Elm is a timber not often seen these days. Most trees in England were killed by a disease in the last century. This bowl came from a tree that grew more recently in Finchley. It died naturally, and fungus invaded the log, leaving zones of colour and the fine black lines of spalting.
