This bowl is made of beechwood from a large tree that came down in a storm. The tree was about 80 feet tall and grew in a private garden in Mill Hill in North London. The bottom of the trunk was spalted, a fungus attack that colours the wood, but this piece came from higher up the tree where the spalting was not so advanced. Sometimes spalting can look a bit too much, but this one is less ‘in your face’. It could be used for fruit or salad. A very nice piece.
