This fruit bowl is turned from beechwood from a wind blown tree. The tree was rotted at the base of its trunk, but higher up the fungus had spalted the wood. This is a crotch bowl, taken from where a branch divides. This gives it feathery crotch figure. Crotch bowls like this one are sometimes called ‘heart’ bowls, due to their outline, which is heart shaped. Sort of. There was a small fissure near the rim, which I filled with decorative brass inlay.
