I turned this little bowl from a small log of oak from a local tree surgeon. The tree had been standing dead for some time before it was felled, and the sapwood has some holes made by boring insects. Unusually, the sapwood is darker in colour than the heartwood. I made a number of green turned bowls from this timber, but this one is ‘twice turned’, that is the turning was completed after the wood was dry. It has a fine finish.
