Description
This is one of a series of bowls that I turned from the wood of a big elm tree that fell in a gale. Elm is an uncommon tree in this part of the world since the elm disease that decimated the species during the last century. This tree somehow survived, but had some decay in the base of the trunk, so its days were numbered even had the storm not hit. Elm has striking grain and a rich colour. This beautiful bowl has pale sapwood and some burr figure, which commonly has small fissures associated with the knots.
