Many of the street trees here are London plane. From time to time the authorities prune them very hard, leaving the branches as short, misshapen stumps, which soon sprout new branches. I had often thought that these stumps would be interesting for turning. A while back I was given one of the stumps, which apparently had fallen to the pavement below. This shallow bowl is the result. The wood had ingrown bark, patches of rot, the cut-off ends of the pruned branches, complex, distorted grain and numerous open fissures. A very striking piece that could be a great fruit bowl.
