This bowl is big. Very big. A statement piece, one of the largest bowls I’ve made. It was made from a big beech tree that fell in a garden in Mill Hill during a storm. It would make a great fruit bowl for someone who likes their fruit. I turned it from a block of unseasoned timber, and as it dried it took on an irregular shape and some surface texture. Fungus had affected the standing tree before it fell, and this bowl has some dark areas created by the fungus. It also has some bark inclusions. It is 46 cm across.
