This bowl is one of a series I turned green from a small oak log that came from a local tree surgeon. It has a broad band of pale sapwood that was extensively attacked by boring insects while the tree was still standing. There are a couple of fine cracks that developed as the wood dried, and a hole where a dead knot used to be. The bowl distorted in shape as it dried.
This is a bowl packed with features that tell the story of the changes undergone by the timber before and after it fell.
