Green turned burr oak bowl, 17 cm

This is one of a series of bowls that I turned from the wood of a big oak tree that fell in a garden during a gale. I turned the bowl to a finish while the timber was still full of sap. As it dried, the bowl warped and developed a very tactile surface texture. It looks very organic, primitive and ancient, like a bowl that Tollund Man might have used. I gave it a tripod foot, to make sure it would remain stable while raising it a little above the table top. There are a number of small fissures and bark inclusions. An interesting piece.
