Description

This is one of a series of bowls that I turned from the wood of a big oak tree that fell in a garden during a gale. I turned the bowl to a finish while the timber was still full of sap. As it dried, the bowl warped and the shrinking grain developed a very tactile surface texture. There are areas of natural dark colour. It looks very organic, primitive and ancient, worn like a bowl that Tollund Man might have used. I gave it a tripod foot, to make sure it would remain stable while raising it a little above the table top. There are a number of fissures and bark inclusions.
