Green turned burr oak bowl, 19 cm

This is one of a series of bowls that I turned from the wood of a big oak tree that fell in a garden in Enfield. I turned the bowl to a finish while the timber was still full of sap. As it dried, it warped and developed a very tactile surface texture. It looks ancient, like a bowl that Tollund Man might have used. I gave it three small feet, to make sure it would remain stable. There are a number of small fissures, particularly where there are small knots forming the burr structure. The bowl also has some small bark inclusions. An interesting piece.
