Description
I turned this bowl from an unseasoned block of plane. The timber was a rich red colour when first cut, but this quickly faded to a pinkish brown. The bowl warped as it dried, and developed a surface texture. Plane has a prominent ray structure when cut radially from the log. A round item like a bowl will show this where its surface is oriented correctly, and this bowl has an area of lace-like figure on the outside and the inside. Timber cut to show the figure on a flat surface is sometimes known as lacewood and used to make fine furniture. This bowl could be used for fruit.
