Fruit bowl turned from spalted elm, 29 cm

Out of stock

SKU: 719 Category:

This is a large, shallow bowl that I turned from the wood of a big elm tree that fell in a storm. The tree was rotted at the base of the trunk, which may be why it fell. Higher in the trunk the rot had not progressed so far, and the wood, though somewhat porous, was still sound enough to use. This piece has a number of darker patches, with some wandering black lines, both the result of the spalting. Spalting is caused by the fungus growing in the wood before it dries.
