Description
This bowl is one of a series that I turned from the wood of a large elm tree that fell in a storm. Elm has a rich brown colour in the heart and pale sapwood, both of which are prominent in this bowl. Elm is an uncommon tree in my area, since the elm disease that decimated the species in the last century. This tree survived the disease, but was weakened by fungus at the base of the trunk, so was brought down by the gale. This bowl has a small natural fissure near the rim, which I filled with decorative brass inlay.
