Description
Elm is an unusual tree these days, due to the damage caused by Dutch elm disease many years ago. One of the few remaining local trees fell in a storm in early 2022, and I was fortunate to acquire some of the timber. I turned a series of bowls from it. The wood has a rich dark colour, with contrasting pale sapwood. This bowl shows patches of the sapwood on the inside and outside, and also has a number of small knots. As is usually the case, the knots have small fissures. This is a striking piece that could be used as a fruit bowl.
