Description
This is a very striking bowl that I turned from the wood of an oak that grew in North London. It has a bit of iron stain. When metal is in the living tree, the iron reacts with tannin in the wood to form a black colouration. The sap carries the stain up the trunk, affecting the section from which this bowl came. There are many small crevices associated with the knots making up the burring.
