This small bowl in rippled ash is 16.5 cm in diameter. The ripple figure crosses the straight lines of the grain giving a striking effect. It is a bowl for display.
The timber came from a log that I got from a local tree surgeon. Until I cut into it, I thought I would use it for utility salad bowls, because ash, though an attractive and strong wood, usually has little in the way of prominent features. But the ripple figure was extensive throughout. I was lucky to find this wood.
